Mn/DOT Roadmap Build-Out
EVS recently completed the Research Roadmap project for Mn/DOT's Research Services Section. EVS received the highest possible performance rating for this project. This project was successful because of discussions early on in the project with Mn/DOT that helped define a "project approach." The essence of this approach was:- Obtain cross-organizational/agency input
- Identify themes
- Engage key experts for all project facets
- Listen, listen, listen
- Identify end-user products
- Always ask for feedback from key experts
- Identify gaps in existing research
- Find and engage "product champions"
- Iterate!
The deliverables for the project included many identified and specified end-user products, and ten full end-user product implementation plans. These implementation plans and specifications covered a wide range of functional topic areas. These topics included "green" roadsides and related hydraulic infrastructure, "green" fleets and facilities, noise, deicing and anti-icing, traffic lighting, signs and pavement markings, etc. Required Mn/DOT field maintenance information was gathered by the EVS team through extensive personal field contacts, telephone calls and e-mail communications. Extensive use was also made of research services ARTS research data bases and other internet research. A minimum of two product implementation plans were prepared for each of the topics investigated.
